mailers haven

Los Angeles, CA

With limited office space available in the area, the owner challenged us with creating a unique office space in an existing tilt-up warehouse. We used the canyon adjacent to the property and the existing skylights as our inspiration for the volume over the main office space. We carved out asymmetrical volumes to bring in the natural light and create visual interest in the space.

design + construction

The original graphics for the project and the way the space was allocated was based on an abstraction of the barcode on typical mailers, which is the origin of the name and the current business practice of this particular client.  By manipulating the dashes and the linearity of the bar code, we were able to create a material palette and graphic pattern represented in the wood slats and water-jet metal panels to create the overall design aesthetic.
