Azerbaijan natives Alex and Leyla Javadov have build a reputation on the San Diego food scene for creating uncompromising gastronomic works of art. With their sights on a downtown destination restaurant Alex and Leyla sought out Point of Departure to create an environment that could be the architectural embodiment of their inspired, eclectic cuisine.  By excavating layer upon layer of paint and drywall we were able to uncover century old brick which created a rustic base upon which to build this eclectic architectural palette. Using iconic patterns and symbols we created a tapestry of texture and light to soften the rustic nature of the reclaimed barn wood and brick walls. The hand hewn furnishings and meticulous metal work is a vestige to Leyla’s painstakingly crafted cuisine.

design + construction

We built most of what you see on the interior of this project.  We tried to make sure the design was consistent throughout by taking every opportunity we had to tie in materials and patterns connected to the homeland of the owners.
